D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E. is a comprehensive prevention program design to equip elementary school children with the life skills to recognize and resist social pressures to experiment with tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. This program was designed and created in the early 1980’s Los Angeles Police Department. The 10 lesson D.A.R.E. core curriculum is taught by a specially trained, uniformed law enforcement officer, which provides for a unique relationship between the officer and the students. This interaction promotes positive role model identification as well as a healthy bonding with a trusted adult. D.A.R.E. is presently being taught to the 5th grade at Webster school.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM

The Clinton Police Department participates in the Neighborhood Watch program. Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer. Launched in 1972, Neighborhood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their presence at all times of day and night. Neighborhood Watch has proven effective because it reduces opportunities for crime to occur; it doesn’t rely on altering or changing the criminal’s behavior or motivation. The Clinton Police Department promotes and offers guidance in the development of Neighborhood Watch groups, assigning individual officer liaisons to each group to discuss the most current crime patterns as well as educate on crime prevention techniques, reporting criminal activity, and tips on how to be an effective witness.
