The area of Main Street to South Street from George east to Taylor street and on Alexander from Main to Van Buren will have a disruption of water service during the day on Friday October 30th and Tuesday November 3rd from 8am to around 3pm. This also includes the Wye Motel and Subway. This is due to work being done in the area. There will NOT be a boil order for Friday's distruption in water. Leaf Vac Pickup will begin on Monday, November 2nd. Weather permitting!
The public works department will begin the yearly leaf vac pickup on Monday, November 2nd. As long as weather permits. They will begin in Zone 1 and move around accordingly. If they finish zone 1, they will move into zone 2 and so on. Please see the zone map to determine what zone you are in. If you do not get picked up, please be patient as they will come back around on a regular basis until the season is over.

Reminder: We will update at the end of each day, what zones have been completed, and where they will begin the following morning.
* Remember - per the ordinance, leaves may be raked in neat rows on the terrace of the City rights-of-way. Leaves shall not be placed upon the sidewalk or paved portion of a street. 🍂🍁

***The yard waste facility is also open to take bagged leaves and brush. Please note that the hours will change starting next week. The hours will be Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m. and from 1:00p.m.-5:00p.

City Hall will be closing at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30th in order to hand out candy during the Trick or Treat around the square.

The City Council meeting for Tuesday, May 19th will be held in the Fire Department South Bay due to the elevator being down.

Elevator Modernization Project to Begin May 14th

Beginning Thursday, May 14, 2026, the elevator at City Hall will be temporarily out of service as work begins on the elevator modernization project.

We understand this may be an inconvenience and appreciate your patience as these improvements are completed. With water bills due on Friday, May 15th, accommodations will be available for anyone unable to use the stairs. Please contact the Water Department at 217-935-3432 or City Hall at 217-935-9438, and a staff member will gladly meet you to assist with bill payment.
